In March 2021, the prices of oil in euros increased for the fifth months in a row (+6.8% after +14.4 in January). The prices in euros of imported commodities (excluding energy) kept increasing (+3.5% after +2.2%), both as a result of industrial raw materials (+3.5% after +1.5%) and raw food materials (+3.5% after +2.8 %).
Last month, pulp quotations since November 2020 have been revised mistakenly by the data provider. Pulp index and associated aggregates indices (agricultural raw materials, industrial raw materials and general index) have been revised in this publication, against the previous one. For January 2021 to March 2021, in default of available data, values of indices have simply been extended as constant, from dollars quotations. Actual data will be released once available.

Oil prices increased again
In March 2021, the prices of North Sea crude oil (Brent) in euros increased again (+6.8% after +14.4) to an average of €55 per barrel. The increase in dollars was less marked (+5.0% after +13.7).

Industrial commodity prices accelerated
In March 2021, the prices of industrial raw materials accelerated (+3.5% after +1.5%). The increase in mineral materials prices accentuated (+3.8% after +1.6%). The prices of ferrous metals recovered (+4.5% after −2.3%), those of non ferrous metals kept increasing (+4.4% after +4.6%) but those of precious metals fell back (−3.1% after +0.5%). The prices of agricultural raw materials accelerated too (+2.0% after +1.6%). The prices of tropical woods eased (+1.7% after +2.4%) as natural rubber (+5.3% after +7.5%) and natural textile fibres (+0.2% after +5.7%). However, the price of hide accelerated (+1.7% after +0.7%) just like sawn softwood (+1.7% after +0.6%).

Food commodity prices increased faster than in February
In euros, the prices of imported raw food materials increased faster than in February (+3.5% after +2.8%), because of meats (+7.7% after +5.7%) and seafood products (+5.9% after −1.0%). However, the prices of oil seeds and vegetable eased (+1.0% after +1.9%), as those of tropical foodstuffs (+2.3% after +3.2%). The prices of cereals fell back (−1.7% after +4.4%) just like sugar (−5.2% after +6.8%%).

Crude oil: from 1986, the price of Brent gradually established as a representative reference price of European supplies.
Petroleum products: prices of petroleum are quotations from the Rotterdam market which supplies European market.
Indices of non-energy raw materials imported by France: the indices calculated by INSEE are monthly averages of raw materials prices, weighted by their share in the French imports of raw materials (2010 = 100).
