In February 2021, agricultural producer prices increased by 4.3% year on year. Excluding fruit and vegetables, they rose by 1.4% over one month and by 3.7% year on year.
Slowdown in cereal prices over one month
In February 2021, cereal prices slowed down sharply (+1.5% after +8.6% in January), in connection with the evolution of soft wheat prices (+0.5% after +9.4%). Prices were less dynamic, particularly as a result of large exports from Russia (before the introduction of export taxes) and larger than expected inventories in the United States. Maize prices also slowed down, but more moderately (+4.5% after +9.7%), notably because of a delay in sowing in Brazil. Year on year, cereal prices accelerated again (+24.5% after +21.4% and +16.3%).
Oilseed prices increased by 5.1% after +6.5%: soybean (+0.2% after +13.0%), rapeseed (+5.7% after +6.6%) and sunflower (+3.6% after +4.5%) prices slowed down. Year on year, oilseed prices sped up sharply (+26.2% after +15.4%).

More about French agricultural price indices
The index of producer prices for agricultural products (IPPAP) measures the change in product prices when the products are put on the market for the first time. It is published in base and reference 100 in 2015. The weight-coefficients of fresh fruit and vegetables change every month so that they reflect their seasonal pattern. As a result their variations must only be interpreted year on year. If needed, indices are seasonally adjusted.
The index of the purchase prices of inputs for agricultural production (IPAMPA) reflects the price evolution of goods and services used in the agricultural process. It is not seasonaly adjusted.
The methodology of IPPAP is available on the Insee web site: https://www.insee.fr/en/metadonnees/source/indicateur/p1657/description
