The industrial producer prices rose by 0.8% in December 2020, after +1.2% in the previous month. The prices for the home market slowed down (+0.8% after +1.7%) while those for the foreign markets picked up (+0.7% after +0.1%). Year on year, the industrial producer prices decreased by 1.3% in December 2020 (after –1.9% in the previous month).

Producer prices in French industry: +0.8%
The industrial producer prices rose by 0.8% in December 2020, after +1.2% in the previous month. The prices for the home market slowed down (+0.8% after +1.7%) while those for the foreign markets picked up (+0.7% after +0.1%). Year on year, the industrial producer prices decreased by 1.3% in December 2020 (after –1.9% in the previous month).
HOME MARKET: +0.8%
The industrial producer prices for the home market increased by 0.8% in December 2020 (after +1.7%): the manufactured product prices sped up (+0.8% after +0.1%) while those of mining and quarrying products, energy and water slowed down. Year on year, the industrial producer prices for the home market declined by 1.2% in December 2020 (after –1.8% in the previous month).
Rise in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water
In December 2020, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water increased by 1.2% (after +6.5%): the prices of electricity production and trade decelerated (+1.4% after +2.0%), as did those of trade services of gas through mains (+2.7% after +4.8%). Year on year, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water recovered in December 2020 (+1.3% after –0.6%).
Acceleration in refined petroleum product prices
In the wake of crude oil prices, the prices of refined petroleum products sped up in December 2020 over a month (+12.9% after +2.8%). Over a year, they fell by 31.2% (after –37.7%).

Rise in prices of the “other industrial products”
The prices of the “other industrial products” rose by 0.4% after remaining virtually stable since July 2020, driven up by those of chemicals and chemical products (+1.7% after –0.1%). Those of basic metals slowed down slightly (+0.8% after +1.0%). Year on year, the prices of the “other industrial products” decreased by 0.7% in December 2020 (after –1.2% in the previous month).
Increase in food and beverage prices
In December 2020, the food and beverage prices grew by +0.4% (after +0.1% in the previous month), driven up notably by those of preserved meat and meat products (+1.0% after –0.6%). The food and beverage prices remained nevertheless below its December 2019 level (–0.3% over a year, similar to the previous month).
Rise in transport equipment prices
In December 2020, the prices of transport equipment rose by 0.4%, as in the previous month, driven up by those of motor vehicles (+0.7% after +0.8%). Year on year, they remained dynamic (+2.5% as in the previous month).
Virtual stability in the prices of electrical, computer and electronic equipment and machinery
The prices of electrical, computer and electronic equipment and machinery were virtually stable in December 2020 (+0.1% after –0.2%) over a month and rose by 0.3% over a year (after +0.2%).

FOREIGN MARKETS: +0.7%
In December 2020, the industrial export producer prices picked up (+0.7% after +0.1%), driven up mainly by those of electricity. The prices of manufactured products rose slightly (+0.2% after +0.1%): the rises in prices of refined petroleum products (+13.4% after +5.5%) and of the “other industrial products” (+0.6% after a stability) were partially offset by the decreases in the prices of transport equipment (–0.8% after a stability) and those of food and beverages (–0.2% as in the previous month).
Year on year, the industrial export producer prices declined by 1.7% in December 2020 (after –2.1%). The manufactured product prices fell by 2.1%, as in November 2020. The decline remained sharp in the prices of refined petroleum products (–30.2% after –37.8%) and eased slightly in the prices of the “other industrial products” (–1.1% after –1.7%). On the contrary, the decline of prices in transport equipment was more pronounced in December than in the previous month (–1.8% after –0.4%), as that of food and beverages (–2.2% after –1.8%).

Import price indices of industrial products: +0.9%
The import prices of industrial products sped up in December 2020 (+0.9% after +0.4%), driven up by the rises in prices of manufactured products (+0.5% after +0.3%) and of hydrocarbons. The prices of coke and refined petroleum products sped up (+12.1% after +5.0%). Those of the “other industrial products” were virtually stable (+0.1% after +0.2%).
Year on year, the import prices of industrial products declined by 3.2% in December 2020 (after –3.8%). The prices for coke and refined petroleum products kept declining strongly (–35.1% after –40.5%). The prices of the “other industrial products” declined by 0.6% (after –0.9%). On the contrary, those of transport equipment sped up slightly (+1.0% after +0.7%).
