Manufacturing industry turnover was virtually stable in November 2020 (+0.1%) Turnover in industry and construction - November 2020
In November 2020, turnover tended to stabilize in the manufacturing industry (+0.1% after +0.1%); It was stable for the second consecutive month in the whole industry.
Export turnover recovered sharply in November (+6.6% after −2.4%).
Compared to February (last month before the first lockdown), turnover remained in decline, in the manufacturing industry (−8.0%) as in industry as a whole (−6.3%).
In the following paragraphs, percentage changes by subsections are presented in descending order of their contribution to the overall percentage change of the industrial production index. The contribution of a subsection takes into account its weight and the magnitude of its evolution.
All data are corrected for seasonal and working day effects (SA-WDA).
In November, turnover recovered in “other manufacturing” but decreased in the manufacture of transport equipment
In November, turnover recovered in “other manufacturing” (+2.5% after −0.9%) and also increased in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+1.4% after +0.0%). By contrast, turnover declined in the manufacture of food products and beverages (−0.6% after −0.8%), in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−1.5% after +6.7%) and in the manufacture of transport equipment (−6.5% after +3.4%).
Compared to February, turnover in industry remained in decline in almost all sectors, especially in the manufacture of transport equipment (−25.2%) and in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−34.9%). It fell more moderately in “other manufacturing” (−2.0%), in the manufacture of food products and beverages (−2.1%) and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (−2.4%). Compared to February, turnover increased only in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply; waste management (+1.9%).

Turnover in the manufacturing industry fell sharply over one year (-9.0%)
The industry turnover over the last three months fell sharply compared to that of the same three months of the previous year (−9.0% for the manufacturing industry, –7.4% for the whole industry). The fall was particularly pronounced in the manufacture of transport equipment (−23.3%) and in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−36.8%) and was less strong in “other manufacturing” (−4.7%) and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (−4.8%). It was moderate in the manufacture of food products and beverages (−1.0%). The turnover was stable in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply; waste management
At a finer level, within the manufacturing industry, the drop in turnover was particularly strong in the manufacture of other transport equipment over one year (−36.2%).
