In December 2020, the turnover in large-scale food retailing bounced back sharply (+10.8% after −9.8% in November), due to the end of the second lockdown. The turnover rose moderately in food products (+1.7% after −2.3%). By contrast, it recovered sharply in non-food products (+33.7% after −24.9%), especially due to the reopening of ''non-essential'' goods sections in supermarkets and hypermarkets. Sales of automotive fuel also bounced back strongly (+29.4% after −27.7% in November) while remaining at a lower level when compared with February.
Turnover bounced back in supermarkets (+6.0% after −5.6%) and hypermarkets (+15.0% after −12.9%).

Turnover bounced back in supermarkets (+6.0% after −5.6%) and hypermarkets (+15.0% after −12.9%).
Decrease over a year (−1.4%)
The turnover of the fourth quarter of 2020 in large-scale food retailing decreased (−1.4%) when compared with the fourth quarter of 2019. Over that period, sales rose in food products (+4.1%). On the contrary, sales decreased in non-food products (−1.7%) and collapsed in automotive fuel (−28.3%).
Year on year, sales were virtually stable in supermarkets (+0.1%) while they decreased in hypermarkets (−3.3%).
