2020- n° 253In July 2020, the turnover stabilized in the manufacturing industry (+0.5%) Turnover in industry and construction - July 2020
In July 2020, the turnover stabilized in the manufacturing industry (+0.5% after +20.8%) and grew modestly in industry (+1.1% after +18.0%).
Export turnover increased sharply in July (+6.1% after +23.5%).
Compared to February (last month before the start of the general lockdown), the turnover remainded however in decline, in the manufacturing industry (−10.3%) as in industry as a whole (−8.4%).
The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution to the overall variation. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.
All data are corrected for seasonal adjustments and working day adjustments (SA-WDA).
In July 2020, the turnover increased in the manufacture of food products and beverages
The turnover increased in “other manufacturing” (+0.9% after +12.0%) and in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+1.6% after +12.2%). It felt back in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−1.4% after +41.7%) and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (−1.6% after +22.4%). It remained stable in the manufacture of transport equipment (+0.0% after +70.8%), with a sharp rise in the manufacture of motors vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (+15.4% after +64.8%) and a decline in the manufacture of other transport equipment (−9.8% after +75.4%).
Compared to February, the turnover remained in a sharp withdrawal in most sectors, particulary in the manufacture of transport equipment (−24.5%) and in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−34.9%). It remained also in net withdrawal in “other manufacturing” (−7.7%), especially in the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products (−12.8%) and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (−6.6%). On the contrary, it slightly exceeded its February level in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+0.4%).
