2020- n° 222In June 2020, the turnover continued to recover in the manufacturing industry (+20.5%) Turnover in industry and construction - June 2020
In June 2020, the turnover continued to recover in the manufacturing industry (+20.5% after +16.2%) as in industry as a whole (+17.0% after +13.3%).
Export turnover increased also sharply in June (+23.9% after +8.6%).
Compared to February (last month before the start of containment), the turnover remainded however in decline, in the manufacturing industry (−10.9%) as in industry as a whole (−10.1%).
The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution to the overall variation. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.
All data are corrected for seasonal adjustments and working day adjustments (SA-WDA).
In June 2020, the turnover increased again in all sectors
The turnover increased again very strongly in the manufacture of transport equipment (+71.1% after +44.9%). It also continued to rebound in “other manufacturing” (+12.0% after +18.6%), in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+11.6% after +1.9%), in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+20.7% after +21.6%), and in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+41.9% after +10.2%).
Compared to February, the turnover remained in a sharp withdrawal in the manufacture of transport equipment (−24.1%), both in automotive industry (−29.3%) and in the manufacture of other transport equipment (−20.3%). The gap is smaller in “other manufacturing” (−8.5% compared to February) with disparities across sub-sections : −14.6% in the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products, −2.4% in the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations and +3.9% in the manufacture of textiles, wearing apparel, leather and related products. The turnover remained low in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−33.9% compared to February). Compared to February, the fall in the turnover was smaller in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (−6.1%) and in the manufacture of food products and beverages (−1.3%).
