In Q2 2020, buildings’ maintenance and improvement work price index (IPEA) increased by +0.1%, a smaller increase compared to previous quarter (+0.4%). Prices leveled off in joinery installation, and in floor and wall covering (after respectively +0.5% and +0.4%) and were almost steady in plastery and other specialised construction activities. They fell back in electrical installation (–0.2% after +0.8%), and slowed down in other construction installation (+0.2% after +1.2%). Conversely, they accelerated in roofing (+0.5% after +0.3%), in plumbing, heat and air-conditioning installation (+0.4% after +0.2%) and in painting and glazing (+0.4% after +0.2%).
Over a quarter, prices went up in the residential sector (+0.2%) and stabilized in the non-residential sector (+0.0%).
Over a year, buildings' maintenance and improvement work prices increased by 0.9% in Q2 2020, after +1.1% in the previous quarter, with a higher rise in the residential sector than in the non-residential sector (+1.0% versus +0.8%). Prices accelerated in roofing (+2.2% after +2.0%). Conversely, they fell back in other specialised construction activities (–0.1% after +0.9%) and slowed down in joinery installation (+1.2% after +1.4%) and in plastering (+1.5% after +1.7%).
Revisions
The evolution in the IPEA price index between the fourth quarter of 2019 and the first quarter of 2020 was reduced by 0.1 points to +0.4%.

The buildings’ maintenance and improvement work price index (IPEA) is a quarterly index which measures the evolution of price excluding taxes charged by construction enterprises (including artisanal forms) for their maintenance and improvement works in residential and nonresidential buildings during the quarter under review.
The IPEA indices are raw data. That means they are not seasonally adjusted.
