The producer prices in French industry recovered in June 2020, for the first time since November 2019 (+0.6% after –0.1% in May). Those for the French market grew by 0.7% (after a stability) and those for the foreign markets rallied (+0.4% after –0.3%). Year on year, the producer prices in French industry kept nevertheless declining (–2.3% after –3.4%).

Producer prices in French industry: +0.6%
The producer prices in French industry recovered in June 2020, for the first time since November 2019 (+0.6% after –0.1% in May). Those for the French market grew by 0.7% (after a stability) and those for the foreign markets rallied (+0.4% after –0.3%). Year on year, the producer prices in French industry kept nevertheless declining (–2.3% after –3.4%).
FRENCH MARKET: +0.7%
The French producer prices in industry for the French market grew anew in June 2020 (+0.7% after a stability in May), driven up by manufactured product prices (+0.9% after +0.3%) and, to a lesser extent, by those of mining and quarrying products, energy and water. Year on year, the decline in French producer prices in industry for the French market reduced in June 2020 (–2.7% after–4.0%).
New rise in refined petroleum product prices
In the wake of oil prices, the prices of refined petroleum products grew strongly in June 2020 (+27.4% after +22.8%), reaching approximatively their March 2020 level. Year on year, they remained below (–38.2% after –56.6%).

Slight rebound in prices of the “other industrial products”
The prices of the “other industrial products” recovered by 0.2% in June 2020 (after –0.2%). They were mainly driven up by those of chemical products (+2.8% after –1.8%), which followed with delay the petroleum product price rise. Year on year, the prices of the “other industrial products” decreased by 2.1% in June 2020 (after –2.6%).
New fall in food and beverage prices
In June 2020, the food and beverage prices fell by 0.2%, like in May, mainly due to general public product promotions in order to boost activity. Year on year, the food and beverage prices slowed down in June 2020 (+0.3% after +0.7%).

Rebound in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water
In June 2020, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water recovered (+0.4% after –1.2%). The prices of electricity production and trade grew by 1.5% (after –2.0% in May and –4.2% in April), owing to an increased demand with the activity upturn in June and a reduced supply due to lower availability of nuclear power park. On the contrary, the price of gas through mains kept decreasing (–3.3% after –3.8%), following a new decrease in regulated tariffs and an abundant supply. Year on year, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water decreased by 2.2% in June 2020 (after –2.6%).
FOREIGN MARKETS: +0.4%
In June 2020, the producer prices of French industrial products for foreign markets recovered (+0.4% after –0.3%), driven up by those of electricity, whereas those of manufactured products stabilized (after –0.2%).
In the wake of oil prices, the export prices of refined petroleum products sped up over a month (+18.2% after +14.4%) but remained in sharp decline over a year (–46.1% after –58.2%). The export prices of the “other industrial products” recovered (+0.4% after –0.8%), mainly due to the rise in chemical product prices (+2.2% after –3.1%).
On the contrary, the export prices of transport equipment declined by 0.9% (after –0.1%), mainly those of air and spacecraft and related machinery, due in particular to the depreciation of the dollar against the euro. The export prices of food products and beverages kept declining (–0.8% after –0.7%), especially those of dairy products and cheese (–2.4% after +0.3%).
Year on year, the producer prices of French industrial products for foreign markets kept declining in June 2020 but at a more reduced pace (–1.3% after –2.2%).

Import price indices of industrial products: +1.5%
In June 2020, the import prices of industrial products sped up (+1.5% after +0.2% in May), driven up by the strong rise in unrefined hydrocarbon prices and, to a lesser extent, by those of manufactured products (+0.5% after –0.2%).
The import prices for coke and refined petroleum products grew by 26.8% (after +0.2%) but remained below their March 2020 level. They declined by 39.1% over a year.
The import prices of electrical, electronic, computer and machinery equipments decreased slightly (–0.3% after +0.1%). On the contrary, those of food, beverages and tobacco recovered (+0.5% after –0.2%). Finally, the import prices of “other industrial products” stabilized (–0.1% after –0.6% in May and April).
Year on year, the import prices of industrial products fell strongly in June 2020 (–4.6% after –7.2%).
