In June 2020, the turnover in large-scale food retailing was virtually stable (+0.1%) after a sharp increase in May (+8.9%). Sales dwindled in food products (−3.6% after +2.0%) and in non-food products (−1.0% after +13.7%). By contrast, they kept increasing strongly in automotive fuel (+44.6% after +70.8%).
Turnover fell back in supermarkets (−3.3% after +3.0%) whereas it grew at a lower pace in hypermarkets compared to May (+3.1% after +11.3%).

Decrease over the second quarter (−4.4%)
Over the second quarter 2020, the turnover in large-scale food retailing fell back (−4.4%) compared to the first quarter. Over that period, sales were virtually stable in food products (+0.1%) whereas they grew sharply in non-food products (+7.1%). Sales collapsed in automotive fuel (−42.2%).
Turnover decreased in supermarkets (−3.1%) and more strongly in hypermarkets (−6.0%).
Decrease over a year (−3.3%)
Over the second quarter, the turnover in large-scale food retailing decreased (−3.3%) compared to the same period one year earlier. Over that period, sales grew sharply in food products (+4.5%) and in non-food products (+3.0%). Sales collapsed in automotive fuel (−47.9%).
Year on year, sales decreased slightly in supermarkets (−0.2%) and more strongly in hypermarkets (−7.1%).
