2020- n° 177In June 2020, consumer prices rose by 0.1% over one month and by 0.2% year on year Consumer price index - final results - June 2020
In June 2020, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 0.1% over a month, as in the previous month. Energy prices rebounded over a month (+1.8% after −2.1% in May). Those of services slowed down, to +0.3% after +0.4%. Tobacco prices were stable, after +0.4% in the previous month. The drop in manufactured product prices was higher (−0.3% after −0.1%), and food prices sharply fell back (−0.8% after +0.5%).
Seasonally adjusted, consumer prices rose by 0.1% in June, after a stability in May.
Year on year, consumer prices rose by 0.2%, after +0.4% in the previous month. This drop in inflation came from a slowdown in services and food prices and a sharper drop in manufactured product prices. Contrariwise, the fall in energy prices was attenuated. Finally, tobacco prices rose at the same pace as in the previous month.
The health crisis due to the Covid-19 impacts the quality of the data for June 2020: price collection on the field, adjourned since 16 March, had gradually resumed, at least in the end of the month of collection, and, at least in the beginning of the month, some outlets were closed and a lot of products were no more available for sale. The prices of a quarter of the consumption are therefore imputed due to the health crisis.
Additional information is available in “For further information”.

Revisions
Compared with the provisional estimates published on June 30, 2020, the month-on-month change in the CPI and in the HICP was up by 0.2points, those year-on-year by 0.1points.
For further information
The CPI is calculated using scanner data, prices collected by INSEE collectors in physical outlets and a centralized collection (online collect, administrative data).
The price collection carried out by collectors on the field (about 40% in the CPI), adjourned since 16 March, has gradually resumed in the end of the month of collection: for the concerned products, alternative data collections were carried out (price collection online, by phone, scanner data…). Moreover, a lot of products were not available for sale in June (restaurants, shows…). These missing prices due to a lack of collection or an impossibility to purchase the products were imputed in compliance with Eurostat guidelines. The prices of a quarter of the CPI basket are therefore imputed due to the health crisis.
