Given the lock down of the population from 17 March to 10 May 2020, response rates for business survey about the first quarter of 2020 (collected during April and May) are lower than usual. Therefore, the results presented here might be more revised than usually in the next publication, which will take into account the answers delivered late.
In Q1 2020, buildings’ maintenance and improvement work price index (IPEA) increased by +0.5%, a larger increase compared to previous quarter (+0.2%). Aside from the rebound of prices in electrical installation and the strong dynamism in other construction installation, increase in prices for other types of work were moderated. A slowing down even occurred for plastering.
Over a quarter, the rise was stronger in the non-residential sector (+0.6%) than in the residential sector (+0.3%).
Year on year, buildings' maintenance and improvement work prices increased by 1.2% in Q1 2020, after +1.6% in the previous quarter, with a higher rise in the non-residential sector (+1.3%) than in the residential sector (+1.0%). Prices accelerated in other construction installation, conversely they tend to slow down in other types of work.
Revisions
The evolution in the IPEA price index between the third and the fourth quarter of 2019 was unchanged, to +0.2%.

The buildings’ maintenance and improvement work price index (IPEA) is a quarterly index which measures the evolution of price excluding taxes charged by construction enterprises (including artisanal forms) for their maintenance and improvement works in residential and nonresidential buildings during the quarter under review.
The IPEA indices are raw data, meaning that they are not seasonally adjusted.
