In January 2020, the turnover in large-scale food retailing was stable (after −0.1% in December 2019). It was virtually stable in food products (−0.1% after +0.3%), it decreased again in non-food products (−0.9% after −1.0%) and bounced back slightly in automotive fuel (+0.2% after −0.4%).
Turnover fell back in supermarkets in January (−1.1% after +1.6%) whereas it recovered in hypermarkets (+0.8% after −1.2%).
In January 2020, the turnover in large-scale food retailing was stable (after −0.1% in December 2019). It was virtually stable in food products (−0.1% after +0.3%), it decreased again in non-food products (−0.9% after −1.0%) and bounced back slightly in automotive fuel (+0.2% after −0.4%).
Turnover fell back in supermarkets in January (−1.1% after +1.6%) whereas it recovered in hypermarkets (+0.8% after −1.2%).
Slight increase over the last three months (+0.5%)
Over the last three months (November 2019 to January 2020), the turnover in large-scale food retailing rose (+0.5%) compared to the previous three months. Sales increased in food products (+0.2%) and in automotive fuel (+0.5%), and were stable in non-food products.
Turnover grew in supermarkets (+0.6%) whereas it was virtually stable in hypermarkets (+0.1%).
Virtual stability over a year
The turnover of the past three months in large-scale food retailing was virtually stable (+0.1%) compared to the same period one year earlier. Over that period, sales fell back in food products (−0.2%) and in non-food products (−1.5%). Sales increased in automotive fuel (+2.9%).
Year on year, sales rose in supermarkets (+0.9%) whereas they declined in hypermarkets (−0.5%).
