In Q4 2019, buildings’ maintenance and improvement work price index (IPEA) increased by +0.2%, a similar increase compared to previous quarter. Prices evolved differently based on the type of work provided. Thus they fell back in other construction installation (–0.5% after +0.2%), stabilized in roofing (+0.1% after +1.0%) and slowed down in electrical installation (+0.2% after +0.3%). Conversely, they rose again in painting (+0.5% after +0.0%) and in plumbing, heat and air-conditioning installation (+0.3% after –0.1%) and bounced back in floor and wall covering (+0.4% after –0.2%).
Quarter to quarter, the rise was a bit stronger in the residential sector (+0.3%) than in the non-residential sector (+0.1%).
Over a year, buildings' maintenance and improvement work prices increased by 1.6% in Q4 2019, after +1.4% in the previous quarter, with a similar rise in the non-residential sector and in the residential sector Prices accelerated in electrical installation (+0.9% after +0.1%) and in plastering (+2.5% after +2.2%). Conversely, they slowed down in roofing (+2.3% after +3.2%) and in floor and wall covering (+1.0% after +1.3%) and they stabilized in other construction installation (–0.1% after +0.5%).
Revisions
The evolution in the IPEA price index between the second quarter and the third quarter of 2019 was reduced by 0.1 points to +0.2%.

The buildings’ maintenance and improvement work price index (IPEA) is a quarterly index which measures the evolution of price excluding taxes charged by construction enterprises (including artisanal forms) for their maintenance and improvement works in residential and nonresidential buildings during the quarter under review.
The IPEA indices are raw data. That means they are not seasonally adjusted.
