FRENCH MARKET: stability in December 2019
French producer prices in industry for the French market stabilized in December 2019 (after +1.1%), the rise in manufactured product prices (+0.3% after –0.1%) was offset by the decrease in those of mining and quarrying products, energy and water. Year on year, French producer prices in industry for the French market recovered slightly in December 2019 (+0.3% after –0.7%).
Decrease in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water
In December 2019, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water fall by 0.7%, after the strong seasonal rise in November (+5.2%). Producer prices of electricity production and trade fell back (–1.6% after +2.4%), especially on the wholesale market, as demand was reduced by the severe transport disruptions in December. Year on year, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water remained below in December 2019 (–1.4% after –1.5%).
Rebound in prices of refined petroleum products
In the wake of oil prices, the prices of refined petroleum products recovered in December 2019 over one month (+2.3% after –0.6%) and over one year (+9.5% after –7.0%).

Rise in food and beverage prices
In December 2019, food and beverage prices kept increasing (+0.4%, as in November). Prices of meat and meat products remained up (+1.1% after +1.5%), due to seasonal holiday season increases. Year on year, food and beverage prices grew by 1.2% in December 2019 (after +1.1%).
Slight fall in prices of “other industrial products”
In December 2019, the prices of “other industrial products” fell by 0.2%, as in the past two months. Those of rubber and plastics products kept decreasing (–0.7% after –0.3%), such as those of paper and paper products (–1.0% after –0.5%). Year on year, the prices of “other industrial products” kept decreasing (–0.7% after –0.8%).

FOREIGN MARKETS: –0.1% in December 2019
In December 2019, the producer prices of French industrial products on foreign markets were virtually stable (–0.1% after +0.2%).
Manufactured export prices stabilized (after +0.1%), in all sectors, except those of refined petroleum products, which grew by 1.1% (after +0.4%).
Year on year, the producer prices of French industrial products on foreign markets rose by 0.7% (after +0.1%): those of manufactured products sped up (+1.4% after +0.7%), mainly due to the dynamism of transport equipment prices (+3.9% as in November).

Import price indices of industrial products: +0.3% in December 2019
In December 2019, the import prices of industrial products increased by 0.3% (after +0.2%), driven up by hydrocarbon import prices. Those of manufactured products remained stable (after –0.1%).
Import prices for coke and refined petroleum products recovered over one month (+2.7% after –0.4%) and more considerably over one year (+11.4% after –5.0%).
The import prices of “other industrial products” kept declining (–0.2% after –0.4%) in all product families, especially those of chemical products (–0.4% after –1.3%) and basic metals (–0.5% after –0.9%).
On the contrary, food, beverage and tobacco import prices remained up (+0.4% after +0.3%).
Year on year, import prices of industrial products recovered sharply in December 2019 (+0.9% after –1.1%).
