In October 2019, the turnover in large-scale food retailing decreased again (−0.2% after −0.3% in September). Sales fell back in food products (−0.5%) after a stability in September whereas they were virtually stable in non-food products (+0.1% after −0.3%). Sales in automotive fuel slowed down (+0.4% after +1.2%).
Turnover dwindled in supermarkets (−0.4% after +1.1%) whereas it was stable in hypermarkets after a decrease (−1.1%).
In October 2019, the turnover in large-scale food retailing decreased again (−0.2% after −0.3% in September). Sales fell back in food products (−0.5%) after a stability in September whereas they were virtually stable in non-food products (+0.1% after −0.3%). Sales in automotive fuel slowed down (+0.4% after +1.2%).
Turnover dwindled in supermarkets (−0.4% after +1.1%) whereas it was stable in hypermarkets after a decrease (−1.1%).
Decrease over the last three months (−0.6%)
Over the last three months (August to October 2019), the turnover in large-scale food retailing decreased by 0.6% compared to the previous three months. Sales decreased by 0.3% in food products and by 1.1% in non-food products. By contrast, sales of automotive fuel rose (+2.0%).
Turnover was stable in supermarkets whereas it declined in hypermarkets (−0.7%).
Decrease of 1.0% over a year
The turnover of the past three months in large-scale food retailing decreased by 1.0% compared to the same period one year earlier. Over that period, sales fell back in food products (−0.7%), in non-food products (−2.6%) and in automotive fuel (−1.0%). Year on year, sales were virtually stable in supermarkets (+0.1%) whereas they declined in hypermarkets (−1.8%).
