In May 2019, the turnover increased again in the manufacturing industry (+1.3% after +0.5% in April). It also grew in industry as a whole (+1.1% after +0.4%).
Export turnover rose in May (+1.9% after +0.1% in April).
The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution to the overall evolution. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.

In May 2019, the turnover increased again in the manufacturing industry (+1.3% after +0.5% in April). It also grew in industry as a whole (+1.1% after +0.4%).
Export turnover rose in May (+1.9% after +0.1% in April).
Increase over the last three months (+1.5%)
Over the last three months (March to May), the turnover went up in the manufacturing industry (+1.5%) as well as in industry as a whole (+1.0%), compared to the previous three months. Within manufacturing, the turnover increased sharply in the manufacture of transport equipment (+5.8%) and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+2.9%). It increased slightly in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+0.3%) and in “other manufacturing” (+0.3%) but decreased in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−0.5%).
Sharp rise compared to the previous year (+5.2%)
The turnover over the last three months grew strongly by 5.2% compared to the same three months of the previous year in the manufacturing industry. It also increased in industry as a whole (+4.7%). It rose in all subsections of the manufacturing industry − the manufacture of transport equipment (+13.4%), the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+7.5%), the manufacture of food products and beverages (+2.6%) and the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+2.5%). It also increased in the manufacture of mining and quarrying and energy and water supply and waste management (+2.7%).

In May, rebound in transport equipment (+7.5%)
The turnover in the manufacture of transport equipment rebounded sharply in May 2019 (+7.5% after −1.4% in April) boosted by the manufacture of other transport equipment (+11.3% after −0.1%) and to a lesser extent by the manufacture of motor vehicles (+2.6% after −3.0%).
Export sales of transport equipment grew strongly (+3.4% after +2.2%).
Further increase in coke and refined petroleum products (+1.7%)
The turnover in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products increased again in May 2019 (+1.7% after +1.1%).
Increase in machinery and equipment goods (+1.0%)
In May 2019, the turnover in machinery and equipment bounced back (+1.0% after −0.9% in April). It rebounded in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (+1.7% after −2.3%) and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (+0.8% after −0.7%). It rose again in the manufacture of electrical equipment (+0.4% after +0.5%).
Export sales increased strongly in machinery and equipment goods (+1.6% after +0.7%).
Slight rise in “other manufacturing” (+0.3%)
The turnover in “other manufacturing” rose slightly in May (+0.3% after −0.5%). It recovered in the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (+3.7% after −0.9%) and in the manufacture of rubber and plastics products and other non−metallic mineral products (+0.6% after −1.3%). It was stable in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (after −0.4% in April) and decreased slightly in other manufacturing, repair and installation of machinery and equipment (−0.1% after +0.6%), in the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment (−0.2% after −0.9%), in the manufacture of wood and paper products; printing and reproduction of recorded media (−0.3% after −0.8%) and in the manufacture of textiles, wearing apparel, leather and related products (−0.6% after +1.6%).
Export sales in “other manufacturing” recovered sharply in May (+2.0% after −2.1%).
Strong decrease in food products and beverages (−1.7%)
The turnover in the manufacture of food products and beverages folded strongly in May (−1.7% after +5.0%). Export sales also decreased (−0.7% after +2.5%).
