In May 2019, output in services bounced back (+0.6% after −0.6% in April).
The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution to the overall variation. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.

In May 2019, output in services bounced back (+0.6% after −0.6% in April).
Services output increased over the last three months
Over the last three months (March to May 2019), services production increased by 1.5% compared to the previous three months.
It increased sharply in business support activities (+2.1%): it rose both in specialised, scientific and technical activities (+2.6%) and administrative and business service activities (+1.3%).
It also grew up in information and communication (+1.5%), in household services (+2.2%), in transportation and storage (+0.7%), in real estate activities (+0.6%) and in accommodation and food services activities (+0.5%).

Output grew sharply over a year
In services, output of the last three months rose sharply over a year (+4.6%).
It went up strongly in business support (+5.6%), be it in specialised, scientific and technical activities (+6.4%) or in administrative and business service activities (+4.4%). It also grew sharply in information and communication (+4.6%), in transportation and storage (+4.0%), in household services (+5.3%), in accommodation and food service activities (+4.1%) and more moderately in real estate activities (+1.3%).

In May 2019, sharp recovery in household services
In May 2019, output in household services recovered strongly (+4.8% after −5.8%). It bounced back sharply in arts, entertainment and recreation (+7.4% after −8.9%) and was near stable in other personal services production (−0.1% after +0.3%).
Rebound in information and communication
Output in information and communication turned up in May 2019 (+1.1% after −0.4%), notably through telecommunications (+3.8% after −4.5%) and edition (+3.2% after +1.5%). On the contrary, it decreased further in information services (−4.6% after −1.9%) and slow down in computer programming (+0.3% after +1.2%).
Slight rise in business support
In May 2019, output in business support activities increased slightly (+0.4% after −0.1%).
Output bounced back in specialised, scientific and technical activities (+1.3% after −0.6% in April), especially with a sharp rebound in scientific research and development (+5.3% after −7.0%) and a further rise in activities of head offices and management consultancy (+0.6% after +1.6%), in other professional, scientific and technical activities (+3.8% after +3.0%) and in architecture and engineering activities (+0.3% after +1.7%). It dwindled in legal and accounting activities (−0.6% after +0.6%) and decreased again in advertising and market research (−0.9% after −2.8%).
However, output fell back in administrative and business support activities (−0.8% after +0.7%). This decrease was marked in rental and leasing activities (−2.1% after +1.3%), in travel agency, tour operator (−5.0% after +1.4%) and more moderate in employment activities (−0.6% after −0.2%). By contrast, it went up again in other administrative and business support activities (+0.8% after +0.9%).
Near-stability in transportation and storage
Output in transportation and storage was near stable in May 2019 (+0.1% after +0.8%). It rebounded in air transport (+5.3% after −4.9%) and grew again in warehousing and support for transportation (+0.7% after +0.8%). By contrast, it dwindled in land transport (−0.9% after +1.1%) and in water transport (−2.6% after +4.5%).
Further decrease in accommodation and food service activities
In May 2019, output in accommodation and food services decreased again (−1.4% after −1.3%). It went down again in accommodation (−3.5% after −6.4%) and turned down in food and beverage service activities (−0.8% after +0.2%).
