In May 2019, the sales volume in overall trade was virtually stable (+0.1% after +0.8% in April). It was virtually stable in wholesale trade (+0.1% after +1.2% in April) and in retail trade (−0.1% after +0.6% in April) whereas it recovered in retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+0.6% after −0.2% in April).

In May 2019, the sales volume in overall trade was virtually stable (+0.1% after +0.8% in April). It was virtually stable in wholesale trade (+0.1% after +1.2% in April) and in retail trade (−0.1% after +0.6% in April) whereas it recovered in retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+0.6% after −0.2% in April).

The sales volume in overall trade increased over the last three months

Over the last three months (March to May 2019), the sales volume in overall trade rose by 1.3% compared to the previous three months. It increased in all sectors: it grew by 1.5% in wholesale trade and in retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, and by 1.0% in retail trade – it rose in specialised stores (+0.9%), in retail trade not in stores (+3.6%) and in non-specialised stores (+0.4%).

The sales volume rose by 2.7% over a year

The sales volume in overall trade grew by 2.7% over a year. It rose by 3.2% in wholesale trade and by 2.4% in retail trade – it grew in every subsection: specialised stores (+2.6%), retail trade not in stores (+6.2%) and non-specialised stores (+1.3%). It increased in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+1.4%).

In May, virtual stability in wholesale trade

In May 2019, the sales volume in wholesale trade was virtually stable (+0.1% after +1.2% in April). It recovered in other machinery, equipment and supplies (+2.2% after −1.5%), kept rising in household goods (+0.9% after +1.4%) and bounced back in other specialised wholesale (+0.8% after −0.2%). By contrast, it fell back in food, beverages and tobacco (−1.3% after +1.1%) and more sharply in agricultural raw materials and live animals (−2.2% after +7.8%).

In May, rebound in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles

In May 2019, the sales volume in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles recovered (+0.6% after −0.2% in April). It accelerated in sale of motor vehicles (+0.8% after +0.4%). It bounced back in sale, maintenance and repair of motorcycles (+1.4% after −4.2%); it was virtually stable in vehicle parts and accessories (+0.1% after −1.6%).

In May, virtual stability in retail trade

In May 2019, the sales volume in retail trade was virtually stable (−0.1% after +0.6% in April). It fell back in non-specialised stores (−0.4% after +1.3%) and more strongly in retail trade not in stores (−1.0% after +0.7%). It rose in specialised stores (+0.3% after +0.1%). Among specialised stores, the sales volume recovered in retail sale of other goods (+0.4% after −0.4%) and in other household equipment (+0.8% after −0.4%), it rose again but at a lower pace in information and communication equipment (+0.5% after +3.1%) and fell back in automotive fuel (−1.0% after −0.1%).

According to the first early estimates, the sales volume in retail trade except of motor vehicles and motorcycles should decrease in June 2019 (−0.5%). It should grow by 2.5% year on year.
