In April 2019, the sales volume in overall trade recovered (+0.9% after −0.3% in March). It bounced back in wholesale trade (+1.4% after −0.4%) and in retail trade (+0.6% after −0.1%) whereas it decreased again in retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (−0.2% after −0.5%).

In April 2019, the sales volume in overall trade recovered (+0.9% after −0.3% in March). It bounced back in wholesale trade (+1.4% after −0.4%) and in retail trade (+0.6% after −0.1%) whereas it decreased again in retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (−0.2% after −0.5%).

The sales volume in overall trade increased over the last three months

Over the last three months (February to April 2019), the sales volume in overall trade rose by 1.6% compared to the previous three months. It increased in all sectors: it grew by 1.6% in wholesale trade, by 2.6% in retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles and by 1.1% in retail trade – it rose in specialised stores (+1.7%) and in trade not in stores (+3.7%), whereas it fell back in non specialised stores (−0.4%).

The sales volume rose by 3.0% over a year

The sales volume in overall trade grew by 3.0% over a year. It rose by 3.4% in wholesale trade and by 2.7% in retail trade – it grew in every subsection: specialised stores (+3.0%), retail trade not in stores (+6.7%) and non-specialised stores (+1.4%). It increased in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+2.1%).

In March, rebound in wholesale trade

In April 2019, the sales volume in wholesale trade rebounded (+1.4%) after a decrease in March (−0.4%). It recovered sharply for wholesaler on a fee or contract basis (+4.9% after −1.0%) and in agricultural raw materials and live animals (+8.0% after −4.2%). It rose again in food, beverages and tobacco (+1.1% after +0.5%). By contrast, it decreased again in other machinery, equipment and supplies (−1.3% after −1.9%) and fell back in other specialised wholesale (−0.6% after +0.2%).

Slight rebound in retail trade

In April 2019, the sales volume in retail trade bounced back slightly (+0.6%) after a virtual stability in March. It rose in non-specialised stores (+1.3% after a stability), it kept increasing in retail trade not in stores (+1.4% after +1.5%) and was stable in specialised stores (after a decrease of 0.5%). Among specialised stores, the sales volume recovered in information and communication equipment (+2.8% after −1.4%) and in retail of food, beverages and tobacco (+0.7% after −0.4%), whereas it kept decreasing in retail sale of other goods (−0.4% after −0.8%) and fell back in other household equipment (−0.5% after a stability).

According to the first early estimates, the sales volume in retail trade except of motor vehicles and motorcycles should increase in May 2019 (+0.3%). It should grow by 2.5% year on year.

In April, further decrease in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles

In April 2019, the sales volume in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles kept decreasing (−0.2% after −0.5% in March). It fell back again in vehicle parts and accessories (−1.7% after −0.9%) and in sale, maintenance and repair of motorcycles (−4.3% after −3.1%). By contrast, it recovered in sale of motor vehicles (+0.4% after −0.3%).
