Materials cost sharply decreasedin civil engineering
In Q1 2019, the cost of materials sharply decreased in civil engineering (–3.6% after +1.7%) because of the important decrease in bitumen prices. On the contrary, it increased in building construction (+0.9% after a stability in Q4 2018) and in specialised works for civil engineering (+1.3% after –0.3%).
Over a year, materials cost lost a lot of its dynamismin civil engineering (+6.1% after +11.5%). It increased in building construction (+1.4% after +1.8%) and in specialised works for civil engineering (+1.6% after +1.5%).

Monthly production cost indices are released every three months.
These indices aggregate the cost indices of six factors of production, four of which are commented here (equipment, labour, energy and materials) and account for more than 8/9 in the calculation of the producer costs in construction.
These indices are subject to revision. They are primarily used for national accounts and macroeconomics analyses.
