In Q1 2019, buildings’ maintenance and improvement work price index (IPEA) went up sharply (+0.7% after a stability in the previous quarter). The growth were marked practically in all types of work, due in particular to rising raw material costs and annual price increases. Prices accelerated sharply in joinery installation (+1.1% after +0.1%) and in the other specialised construction activities (+0.9% after +0.1%). They rebounded strongly in electrical installation (+0.8% après −0.6%).

Over a quarter, the rise was the same in the residential sector (+0.7%) and in the non-residential sector.

Over a year, buildings' maintenance and improvement work prices increased by 1.2%, a little more than in the previous quarter (+1.1%). Prices accelerated in the other specialised construction activities (+1.4% after +0.7%) and in electrical installation (+0.8% after +0.2%). They were a little less dynamic in roofing (+2.5% after +3.0%) and in plumbing, heat and air-conditioning installation (+1,7%after +2.2%). They fell back slightly in the other construction installation (−0.2% after +0.3%)

Over a year, the rise was stronger in the non-residential sector (+1.5%) than in the residential sector (+1.1%).

For more information – Definition

The buildings’ maintenance and improvement work price index (IPEA) is a quarterly index which measures the evolution of price excluding taxes charged by construction enterprises (including artisanal forms) for their maintenance and improvement works in residential and non-residential buildings during the quarter under review.

The IPEA indices are raw data. That means they are not seasonally adjusted.
