In February 2019, the sales volume in overall trade kept increasing (+0.8% after +1.2% in January). It increased in all sectors: in wholesale trade (+0.5% after +1.2%), in retail trade (+0.9% after +0.2%) and in retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+1.4% after +3.5%).
The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution to the overall variation. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.

In February 2019, the sales volume in overall trade kept increasing (+0.8% after +1.2% in January). It increased in all sectors: in wholesale trade (+0.5% after +1.2%), in retail trade (+0.9% after +0.2%) and in retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+1.4% after +3.5%).
The sales volume in overall trade increased over the last three months
Over the last three months (December to February), the sales volume in overall trade rose by 0.5% compared to the previous three months. It increased in all sectors: it grew by 0.6% in wholesale trade and in retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, and more moderately in retail trade (+0.2%) – it rose in specialised stores (+0.9%), whereas it fell back in trade not in stores (−1.4%) and in specialised stores (−0.5%).

The sales volume rose by 1.7% over a year
The sales volume in overall trade grew by 1.7% over a year. It rose by 1.8% in wholesale trade and by 2.4% in retail trade – it grew in every subsection: specialised stores (+2.6%), non-specialised stores (+2.1%) and retail trade not in stores (+2.2%). It decreased in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (−0.5%).

In February, further increase in wholesale trade
In February 2019, the sales volume in wholesale trade kept increasing, butat a lower pace compared to the previous month (+0.5% after +1.2% in January 2019). It accelerated in other machinery, equipment and supplies (+5.0% after +0.8%), slowed down in other specialised wholesale (+1.2% after +2.5%) and bounced back in information and communication equipment (+1.0% after −1.1%). By contrast, it fell back in household goods (−0.7% after +1.7%) and in food, beverages and tobacco (−0.6% after +1.0%).
Acceleration in retail trade
In February 2019, the sales volume in retail trade accelerated (+0.9% after +0.2% in January 2019). It kept increasing in specialised stores (+1.4% after +1.3%), bounced back in retail trade not in stores (+1.0% after −0.2%), whereas it was unchanged in non-specialised stores after a decrease in January (−1.2%). Among specialised stores, the sales volume gathered pace in retail sale of other goods (+2.0% after +0.1%), slowed down in other household equipment (+1.5% after +2.8%) and recovered in cultural goods (+1.9% after −0.2%). By contrast, it dwindled in automotive fuel (−0.5% after +4.1%).
According to the first early estimates, the sales volume in retail trade except of motor vehicles and motorcycles should be virtually stable in March 2019 (−0.1%). It should grow by 2.2% year on year.
In February, further increase in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles
In February 2019, the sales volume in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles grew again, but at a lower pace compared to January (+1.4% after +3.5% in January). It slowed down in sale of motor vehicles (+1.7% after +3.0%) and in maintenance and repair of motor vehicles (+1.2% after +3.3%). It surged in sale, maintenance and repair of motorcycles (+11.2% after +2.1%) and stabilized in vehicle parts and accessories after a rise in January (+5.1%).
