In February 2019, the turnover bounced back sharply in the manufacturing industry (+2.5%) after a slight decrease in January (−0.2%). It accelerated again in industry as a whole (+2.0% after +0.3%).
Export turnover also rose markedly in February (+2.3% after +0.6% in January).
Increase over the last three months (+1.2%)
The turnover went up over the last three months in the manufacturing industry (+1.2%) as well as in industry as a whole (+1.2%). Within manufacturing, the turnover increased in “other manufacturing” (+0.9%), in the manufacture of transport equipment (+2.0%), in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+1.6%) and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (1.0%). It was stable in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products.
Sharp rise compared to the previous year (+3.7%)
The turnover over the last three months grew strongly by 3.7% compared to the same three months of the previous year in the manufacturing industry. It grew more strongly in industry as a whole (+4.5%) due to the strong increase in the manufacture of mining and quarrying and energy and water supply and waste management (+8.7%). It rose in most subsections of the manufacturing industry − “other manufacturing” (+2.8%), the manufacture of transport equipment (+6.0%), the manufacture of food products and beverages (+2.9%), the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+8.0%) and the machinery and equipment goods (+2.8%).

In February, very strong increase in transport equipment (+16.0 %)
The turnover in the manufacture of transport equipment grew up strongly in February (+16.0% after −2.7%), due to the rebound in the manufacture of other transport equipment (+31.9% after −7.1%). However, it dwindled in the manufacture of motor vehicles (−0.8% after +2.4%).
Export sales of transport equipment went up strongly (+11.4% after +2.4%).
Further increase in coke and refined petroleum products (+4.5%)
In February, the turnover in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products increased again (+4.5% after +1.8%.).
Slight withdrawal in machinery and equipment goods (−0.2%)
In February, the turnover in machinery and equipment dwindled slightly (−0.2% after +2.4% in January). It turned down in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (−0.5% after +5.0%) and in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (−0.6% after +0.3%) whereas it increased again in the manufacture of electrical equipment (+1.1% after +0.5%).
Export sales also dwindled in machinery and equipment goods (−1.6% after +5.6%).
Downturn in food products and beverages (−0.9%)
The turnover in the manufacture of food products and beverages turned down in February (−0.9% after +1.1%). Export sales also fell back (−1.3% after +4.9%).
Further decrease in “other manufacturing” (−0.5 %)
The turnover in “other manufacturing” diminished again in February (−0.5% after −0.6%). It dwindled in the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment (−1.4% after +0.9%), in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (−1.4% after +1.2%), in other manufacturing, repair and installation of machinery equipment (−0.7% after −1.2%), in the manufacture of textiles, wearing apparel, leather and related products (−1.4% after +3.1%) and in the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (−0.2% after −17.7%). By contrast, the turnover went up in rubber and plastics products and other non−metallic mineral products (+1.6% after +0.6%). It was virtually stable in the manufacture of wood and paper products; printing and reproduction of recorded media (+0.1% after +1.3%).
Export sales in “other manufacturing” decreased again in February (−1.1% after −2.4%).
