The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution to the overall evolution. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.

In January 2019, the turnover fell back in the manufacturing industry (−0.3%) after an increase in December (+0.8%). It was stable in industry as a whole (0.0% after +0.6%).

Export turnover rose again (+0.5% after +1.1% in December).

Decrease over the last three months (-0.3%)

The turnover decreased over the last three months in the manufacturing industry (−0.3%) as well as in industry as a whole (−0.2%). Within manufacturing, the turnover decreased sharply in the manufacture of transport equipment (−3.5%) and in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−5.4%). It grew up in “other manufacturing” (+0.8%) and in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+1.5%). It held steady in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (0.0%).

Increase compared to the previous year (+1.8%)

The turnover over the last three months grew by 1.8% compared to the same three months of the previous year in the manufacturing industry. It grew more strongly in industry as a whole (+2.8%) due to the strong increase in the manufacture of mining and quarrying and energy and water supply and waste management (+7.3%). It rose in most subsections of the manufacturing industry − “other manufacturing” (+2.2%), the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+5.5%), the manufacture of food products and beverages (+2.5%), the machinery and equipment goods (+2.2%). By contrast, it fell in the manufacture of transport equipment (−1.2%).
