In December 2018, output in services was stable after a decrease in November (−0.3%).
The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution to the overall variation. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.

In December 2018, output in services was stable after a decrease in November (−0.3%).
Services output rose sharply over the last three months
Over the last three months (October to December), services production increased by 1.3% compared to the previous three months.
It grew strongly in business support activities (+1.8%): it rose in specialised, scientific and technical activities (+1.6%) and in administrative and business service activities (+2.2%). Output grew sharply in information and communication (+2.0%), in accommodation and food services activities (+1.6%), in transportation and storage (+0.9%) and in household services (+0.6%). It decreased in real estate activities (−1.7%).

Output grew sharply over a year
In services, output of the last three months rose sharply over a year (+4.6%).
It went up strongly in business support (+6.0%), be it in specialised, scientific and technical activities (+6.9%) or in administrative and business service activities (+4.8%). It also grew sharply in information and communication (+6.5%), in transportation and storage (+3.0%), in accommodation and food service activities (+3.2%) and in household services (+2.8%). By contrast it decreased in real estate activities (−0.5%).

Further decrease in information and communication in December
Output in information and communication decreased again in December (−1.0% after −1.4%), due to computer programming (−1.2% after −1.1%), telecommunications (−1.3% after −2.1%), and motion picture, sound recording and music publishing (−3.4% after −1.4%).
Further rise in household services
Output in household services increased again in December (+1.6% after +2.1%). It rose again in arts, entertainment and recreation (+2.4% après +3.7%) and was virtually stable in other personal services production (+0.1% after −0.8%).
Rebound in transportation and storage
Output in transportation and storage bounced back in December (+0.6% after −1.1%). It recovered strongly in warehousing and support for transportation (+3.8% after −3.4%) and postal and courier activities (+2.6% après −3.5%). On the contrary, it fell sharply in air transport (−6.9% after −0.5%) and more moderatly in land transport (−0.5 % after +0.1%).
Virtual stability in business support
In December 2018, output in business support activities was virtually stable (+0.1% after+ 0.4%).
Output grew sligthly again in specialised, scientific and technical activities (+0.3% after +0.2% in November), due to rebounds in scientific research and development (+4.8% after −3.8%) and in advertising and market research (+3.8 % after −5.1%) and despite dowturns in activities of head offices and management consultancy (−1.7% après +1.7%) and in architecture and engineering activities (−1,5% après +2.2%)
Output was virtually stable in administrative and business support activities (−0.1% after +0.6%). It increased in rental and leasing activities (+1.5% après −2.3%) but dwindled in employment activities (−0.9% after +3.1%) and in other administrative and business support activities (−1.2% after +2.2%). It fell sharply in travel agency, tour operator (−6.3% après +8.1%).
Recovery in accommodation and food service activities
In December, output in accommodation and food services bounced back (+0.7%) after a slight decrease in November (−0.2%). It gathered pace in accommodation (+2.3% après +1.8%) and went up slightly in food and beverage service activities (+0.3% after −0.8%).
