In December 2018, the sales volume in overall trade fell back again (−0.7% after −1.1% in November). It kept decreasing in retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (−1.9% after −1.7%) and in wholesale trade (−0.4% after −1.6%). It fell back in retail trade (−0.7%) after a stability in November.
The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution to the overall variation. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.

In December 2018, the sales volume in overall trade fell back again (−0.7% after −1.1% in November). It kept decreasing in retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (−1.9% after −1.7%) and in wholesale trade (−0.4% after −1.6%). It fell back in retail trade (−0.7%) after a stability in November.
The sales volume in overall trade grew slightly over the last quarter
Over the last quarter, the sales volume in overall trade grew slightly (+0.4%) compared to the previous quarter. It rose in wholesale trade (+0.9%) and in retail trade (+0.5%) – it grew in non-specialised stores (+1.1%) and in specialised stores (+0.3%) and fell back in trade not in stores (−0.5%). It declined strongly in retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (−1.9%).

The sales volume rose by 1.4% over a year
The sales volume in overall trade grew by 1.4% over a year. It rose by 1.7% in wholesale trade and by 2.4% in retail trade – it grew in every subsection: non-specialised stores (+4.2%), specialised stores (+1.5%) and retail trade not in stores (+0.7%). It decreased in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (−1.8%).

In December, further decrease in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles
In December 2018, the sales volume in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles kept decreasing (−1.9% after −1.7% in November), especially in sale of motor vehicles (−2.3% after −0.4%), in sale of motor vehicle parts and accessories (−0.9% after −5.2%) and in maintenance and repair of motor vehicles (−1.1% after −2.2%). The volume was virtually stable in sales, maintenance and repair of motorcycles (−0.1% after −3.4%).
In December, further decrease in wholesale trade in November
In December 2018, the sales volume in wholesale trade kept decreasing (−0.4% after −1.6% in November). It fell back sharply for wholesalers on a fee or contract basis (−6.0% after +3.0%), in other specialised wholesale (−3.1% after −1.9%), and in household goods (−1.4% after +0.1%). By contrast, it bounced back sharply in agricultural raw materials and live animals (+18.9% after −11.4%) and in information and communication equipment (+5.2% after −5.1%).
Downturn in retail trade
In December 2018, the sales volume in retail trade fell back (−0.7) after a stability in November. It kept decreasing in specialised stores (−0.6% after −0.3%), it dwindled sharply in retail trade not in stores (−2.2% after +1.4%) and more moderately in non-specialised stores (−0.4% after +0.1%). Among specialised stores, the sales volume fell back strongly in automotive fuel (−3.7% after +0.6%), it kept decreasing in other household equipment (−1.2% after −1.6%), it dwindled slightly in sale of other goods (−0.3% after +0.1%) and it recovered in cultural goods (+2.5% after −0.6%).
According to the first early estimates, the sales volume in retail trade except of motor vehicles and motorcycles should increase in January 2019 (+0.9%). It should grow by 2.0% year on year.
