In April 2018, the turnover in large-scale food retailing fell back markedly (−2.6% after +1.4% in March). The sales slipped back strongly in food products (−3.2% after +2.2%) whereas they picked up slightly in non-food products (+0.5% after −1.4%). Sales of automotive fuel were steady after an increase of 0.6% in March.
Sales fell back in supermarkets (−1.0% after +0.4%) and more sharply in hypermarkets (−2.4% after +1.6%).

Increase over the last three months
Over the last three months (February to April), the turnover in large-scale food retailing went up compared to the previous three months (+1.3%). Over that period, sales increased markedly in automotive fuel (+1.8%). They grew in food products (+1.3%) while they decreased in non-food products (−0.6%). Turnover increased both in supermarkets (+1.1%) and in hypermarkets (+0.9%).
Growth of 1.9% over a year
The turnover of the past three months in large-scale food retailing rose by 1.9% compared to the same period a year earlier. Sales grew modestly in food products (+1.3%) whereas they decreased sharply in non-food products (−2.3%). Sales of automotive fuel surged (+8.0%). Year on year, sales increased more in supermarkets (+1.9%) than in hypermarkets (+1.6%).
