In April 2017, the prices of frequently purchased goods in hyper and supermarkets and in large and predominantly food stores increased slightly (+0.1%) as in the previous month.
In April 2017, the prices of frequently purchased goods in hyper and supermarkets and in large and predominantly food stores increased slightly (+0.1%) as in the previous month.
Excluding hyper and supermarkets, the prices of frequently purchased goods barely accelerated (+0.2% after +0.1%).
Considering all the kinds of stores, the prices of frequently purchased goods increased a little (+0.1%), as in March 2017.
Year on year, the prices in hyper and supermarkets rose a little, for the first time since September 2013
Compared with the same month last year, the prices of frequently purchased goods sold in hyper and supermarkets rebounded slightly: +0,1 % after −0.1% in March 2017. This little increase followed 42 consecutive months of drop. In the same way, prices recovered slightly in large and predominantly food stores (+0,1 % after −0.1%).
The prices of frequently purchased goods rose more sharply: they increased by 1.1% over a year, as in the four previous months.
Considering all stores, the prices of frequently purchased goods slightly speeded up year on year (+0.2% after +0.1%).

Further slight rise in food prices in hyper and supermarkets
In April 2017, the prices of food excluding fresh products sold in hyper and supermarkets hardly increased (+0.1%). Year on year, they rose slightly (+0.2%) after a stability in the previous month.
The small month-on-month rise resulted from an acceleration in food prices other than meat and beverages, partly offset by a little decline in meat prices whereas the price of beverages remained stable.
Meat prices edged down by 0.1% in April, following a slight rise in the previous month (+0.2%). Year on year, they slowed down a little (+0.3% in April after +0.4%).
The prices of beverages sold in hyper and supermarkets were stable, after a slight increase in March (+0.2%). Year on year, these prices rose slightly more than in the previous month (+0.6% after +0.5%).
The prices of other food products (excluding fresh food) slightly accelerated in April (+0.3% after +0.1%). Year on year, they were stable after a drop in the previous month (−0.4%).
Retreat in the prices of cleaning and personal care products in hyper and supermarkets
In April, the prices of cleaning and personal care products sold in hyper and supermarkets fell by 0.2%, whereas they were stable in the previous month. Year on year, they dropped by 0.4%, for the second consecutive month.
