2016- n° 262In August 2016, manufacturing output increased sharply (+2.2%) Industrial production index - August 2016
In August 2016, output rebounded sharply in the manufacturing industry (+2.2% after -0.2% in July). It also bounced back in the whole industry (+2.1% after -0.5%).
Please note: all the series are seasonally (SA) and working-day adjusted (WDA).
The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.
In August 2016, output rebounded sharply in the manufacturing industry (+2.2% after −0.2% in July). It also bounced back in the whole industry (+2.1% after −0.5%).
Manufacturing output diminished slightly over the past three months (−0.2%)
Over the past three months, output decreased slightly in the manufacturing industry (−0.2% q-o-q). It diminished in the overall industry (−0.5% q-o-q).
Output shrank strongly in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply (−1.9%) and in the manufacture of transport equipment (−1.8%), and more moderately in the manufacture of food products and beverages (−0.6%). It dropped sharply in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−4.3%). Conversely, output grew in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+0.5%). It was stable in “other manufacturing”.
Over a year, manufacturing output was virtually stable (−0.1%)
Manufacturing output of the last three months was virtually stable compared to the same months of 2015 (−0.1% y-o-y), while overall industrial output faltered (−0.3% y-o-y).
Over the year, output shrank in the manufacture of food products and beverages (−3.2%). It decreased markedly in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply (−1.3%) and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (−0.8%). Conversely, it went up sharply in the manufacture of transport equipment (+3.4%) and rose slightly in “other manufacturing” (+0.2%) and in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+0.3%).
