In August 2015, the sales volume increased in overall trade (+0.3%) and in household services. (+0.7%). On the contrary, it declined in accommodation and food service activities (–0.7%).
Except for indices from Emagsa survey, every index in this issue is in volume (tax excluded) and seasonally and working-day adjusted (SA-WDA). The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.
In August 2015, the sales volume increased in overall trade (+0.3%) and in household services (+0.7%). On the contrary, it declined in accommodation and food service activities (–0.7%).

Rise in retail trade
In August 2015, the sales volume grew slightly in retail trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+0.3%). According to early estimates, it should fall back in September (–0.4%).
Sales volume went on growing in specialised stores (+0.7% after +0.2%): it increased in particular in retail sale of other goods (pharmacy, clothings, etc.: +0.6%), in retail sale of automotive fuel (+2.3%), and in retail sale of other household equipment (+0.9%). However, sales volume was slightly down again in non specialised stores (–0.2%).
The sales volume in retail trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles went up sharply over the last three months (+1.3%, q-o-q) and over the year (+3.5%, y-o-y).

Growth in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles
In August, the sales volume in retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles improved slightly (+0.3%) thanks to the rebound of sale of motor vehicles (+0.9% after –0.2% in July) while the rest of the sector was down.
The sales volume rose strongly over the last three months (+1.3%) and year - on - year (+3.9%).

Downturn in accommodation and food service activities
The sales volume in accommodation and food service activities shrank in August (–0.7%) after a rebound in July (+1.2%). The decrease was almost general, including a sharp decline in restaurants and fast food services (–0.9% after +2.2%) and in accommodation (–0.6% after +0.4%).
The sales volume of the whole sector increased over the last three months (+0.6%) but was down year on year (–0.5%).
Further growth in household services
In August, the sales volume in household services increased at the same pace as in July (+0.7%). The rise was driven by other personal service activities (+1.2%), by repair of computers (+1.3%) and by gambling and betting activities (+1.2%). On the contrary, the sales volume decreased in sports activities and amusement (–0.7%).
The sales volume in household services was virtually stable over the last three months (–0.1%) and it rose year-on-year (+1.1%).
Revisions
The variation for July 2015 has been raised by +0.3 points in household services. Initially calculated at +0.4%, it has been revised at +0.7%. It has been revised by –0.1 points in retail trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles and by +0.1 points in accommodation and food service activities. It is unchanged in retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles.
Monthly survey on large-scale food retailing in September 2015
In September 2015, the turnover in large-scale food retailing declined (–0.8% after +0.4% in August). The decrease was general, regardless of the type of product. It was again particularly strong in sales of automotive fuel which continued to fall for the third month in a row (–3.2% after –3.8% in August and –2.4% in July).
