In May, French producer prices in industry dedicated to the domestic market continued to go down (-0,3% and -7,8% year-on-year) despite the bounce in prices of coke and refined petroleum products.

French producer price indices in industry
In May, French producer prices in industry dedicated to the domestic market continued to go down (-0,3% and -7,8% year-on-year) despite the bounce in prices of coke and refined petroleum products.
Prices of coke and refined petroleum products expanded for the second time in May (+3,0% after +4,7% in April). They fell by 50,5% since May 2008 (-39,1% excluding TIPP) after an uninterrupted drop between June 2008 and March 2009.
On the other hand, prices in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply declined by 3,1% in May after -6.7% in April, due to the shift between winter and summer tariffs. Since May 2008, prices of mining and quarrying, energy and water hardly went down by 1,0%.
Prices of manufactured goods were unchanged since April but decreased by -8.9% year-on-year.
French non-domestic industrial producer prices remained steady since April (after -0.7% in March). They were down by 4,2 % since May 2008.
Importation prices of industrial products
In May, prices of imported industrial products increased by 0,6% (after -1,3%), due to the rise in prices of hydrocarbons especially. Prices of imported manufactured goods slightly resumed (+0,2% after -0,2% in April as in March). The global index dropped by 10.7% year-on-year, according to the fall in trading prices of petroleum products and raw materials.
Notice: Since February 2009 results, producer price indices in industry and industrial import price indices are expressed in base and reference 2005, according to the 2008 revision of the classification of activities and products (NAF rev. 2 and CPF rev. 2, identical to NACE rev.2 and CPA rev. 2).
