Dorothée Ast, Guillaume Bichler, Quentin Manuaud, Olivier Schmidt (Insee)

In 2021, cross-border workers travelled an average of 34 km to reach their workplace, compared to 14 km for non-border workers living in the same areas. The majority commuted by car. Approximately 18% undertook journeys of 50 km or more, and the number of these longer commutes rose sharply compared to 2010. Along the borders with Luxembourg, Geneva, and Basel, cross-border worker flows were highly concentrated. Journeys were particularly long to Luxembourg and the Swiss Jura Arc, whereas they were shorter to Monaco.
