France, especially for food products
In 2022, consumer prices were higher in the French overseas departments than in metropolitan France: from 9% higher in Reunion Island to 16% higher in Guadeloupe. For all the overseas departments, price differences have increased compared with 2015.
Price differences were primarily due to the high cost of goods, especially food products, for which household prices were 30% to 42% higher. The differences were smaller for services, which nevertheless remained more expensive overall in overseas departments, particularly communication services.
These comparisons were based on a method that takes into account the differences in average consumer baskets between each French overseas department and metropolitan France.
