Moves to functionnal areas of cities with smaller populations than those of origin have also increased (+101,000 people in 2021 compared to 2019, i.e. +15%). At the same time, the number of people moving from rural to urban areas fell slightly.

The changes in residential mobility by age, family type and socio-professional category were slight between 2019 and 2021. Executives who moved, mostly prefered moving to less populated areas and rural areas, and left more often the Île-de-France region.
