This municipality has experienced contour changes since 2011:

  • 01/01/2019 – Château-Gontier devient commune déléguée (chef-lieu) au sein de Château-Gontier-sur-Mayenne (53062) (commune nouvelle).
  • 01/01/2019 – Création de la commune nouvelle de Château-Gontier-sur-Mayenne en lieu et place des communes d'Azé (53014), de Château-Gontier (53062) et de Saint-Fort (53215) devenues déléguées.
