This municipality has experienced contour changes since 2011:

  • 01/01/2016 – Machecoul devient commune déléguée (chef-lieu) au sein de Machecoul-Saint-Même (44087) (commune nouvelle).
  • 01/01/2016 – Création de la commune nouvelle de Machecoul-Saint-Même en lieu et place des communes de Machecoul (44087) et de Saint-Même-le-Tenu (44181) devenues déléguées.
