In 2019, an employee in the hospital public service earned on average 2,315 euros net per month per full-time equivalent; all public employees in hospitals and medical social institutions are included in this average, whether they were civil servants, contract workers or medical staff. In nominal terms, the average net wage rose by 0.3% compared to 2018. Adjusted for inflation, the average net wage decreased by 0.8% in real terms.

The average net wage of civil servants in the hospital public service decreased by 0.8% in real terms. For non-civil servants, it decreased more moderately (–0.3%), notably due to the drop in the number of subsidized contracts, less paid on average. Medical personnel’s net wage also decreased by 0.3%.

In 2019, wage disparities in the hospital public service decreased slightly, the highest wages decreasing more than the others in real terms. Women's average net wages were 20.6% lower than men’s. With the same profile, the gap was 3.6%.

For employees present throughout both years 2018 and 2019 with the same employer and the same work quota, i.e. nearly two thirds of employees in the hospital public service, the average net wage increased by 0.4% in real terms.
