Decision-making, design and management functions are more present in large urban areas

Paris and the largest functional areas concentrate jobs relating to decision-making, design, management and intermediation functions. Paris area remains predominant in these fields, but these functions are also more present in the largest urban areas, where they went from representing 29% of jobs in 2007 to 31% in 2017. In these city areas, the proportion of executives in these functions is also increasing.

Production functions (manufacturing, agriculture, construction) are concentrated in the least populated functional areas and in municipalities outside the cities’ attraction.
