National economic wealth in 2016 A marked increase
As at end-2016, net national economic wealth amounted to 14,023 billion euros, or 7.7 times the net domestic product for the year. It was up by 3.1% compared to 2015, shaped by the rise in housing prices and stock market valuations. In 2016, household wealth picked up slightly (+3.2%, following on + 2.2%) helped by the rise in real estate prices.
The own-funds of non-financial companies, meanwhile, rose swiftly (+5.6%, after +8.1%). In 2016 as in 2015, this growth was due in particular to the continuing climb of both share prices and real estate prices. The own-funds of financial companies rose once again sharply.
Lastly, the net wealth of public administrations continued to decrease, amounting to 190 billion euros as at end-2016, compared to 255 billion euros in 2015.
