1,625 State-controlled companies at the end of 2015

At the end of 2015, the State directly controlled 89 French companies. Through these companies and their subsidiaries, it controlled 1,625 French companies in all, employing 791,000 people. Compared with 2014, the number of State-controlled companies remained virtually stable and the payroll workforce concerned declined very slightly. The predominant sector of activity was still the tertiary sector, in particular “transportation and storage” which accounts for over 60% of employees in State-controlled companies.
