Insee FocusBeneficiaries of the allowance for loss of autonomy in the departments

Marie-Dominique Minne, Insee, Isabelle Leroux, Drees

In 2013, 1.2 million people aged 60 or over received the allowance for loss of autonomy (APA). Nine out of ten beneficiaries were aged 75 or over. In many departments, a high rate of beneficiaries in the elderly population goes hand in hand with a high poverty rate at these ages. The departmental rate of APA beneficiaries living in their own homes varies from 6% to 37% and from 3% to 16% for APA beneficiaries in institutions.
