241,300 marriages in 2014 – A slight increase due to same-sex marriages
241,292 marriages were celebrated in France in 2014. The slight increase compared to 2013 (+ 2,700) results from same-sex marriages. Marriages between persons of different sex were stable. Slightly younger in 2014 than in 2013, same-sex spouses however remained older than those of different sex. Over 20% of same-sex marriages were celebrated in municipalities with 200,000 inhabitants or more, compared to less than 10% for marriages between persons of different sex.
