1,632 State-controlled companies at the end of 2014

At the end of 2014, the State directly controlled 89 French companies. Through these companies and their subsidiaries, it controlled 1,632 French companies in all, employing 795,000 people. Compared to 2013, the number of State-controlled companies increased by 191. However, total payroll employment remained stable. The sector of activity that predominated was still the tertiary sector and in particular “transportation and storage”, which accounts for 60% of employees in State-controlled companies.
