Agricultural income in 2013

Marie-Hélène Blonde, Claire Lesdos, Alexandre Bernaudeau

In 2013, in EU-28,, the value of agricultural production is almost unchanged, the increase in production volumes offset the lower prices. The situations are very contrasting by productions and countries. As the value of intermediate consumption increases, the agricultural factor income per labour unit in real terms decrease (- 1.3% on average), after stagnating in 2012. In France, however, according to the latest provisional data, after three years of growth, this income is much lower (-19.8%) due to the fall in prices of crops. Since 2005, it fluctuates strongly. Over the period 2005-2013, the overall increase is below the European average and Germany. The French surplus of foreign trade in food products is broadly stable at around 11.5 billion euros. Unlike 2012, it is reduced for transformed products and increases for raw agricultural products due to the increase of the exported volumes of cereal and the price of potatoes.
