Between 2010 and 2012, over half of the “regional SMEs” in manufacturing, information and communication and scientific and technical activities innovated. The share varies according to the regions, the business sector and the size of such local businesses. Export mindedness, investment and the qualifications of employees also count. Over and beyond these individual factors, the region in which the company is based also appears to be important with respect to innovation.
