In 2012, trade establishments with 20 or more employees (excluding motor vehicle trade) generated 4.2 million tons of non-hazardous, non-mineral waste. Over 60% of this waste came from retail, particularly large food supermarkets. Three quarters was sorted or collected selectively, mainly packaging waste. Over 70% of sorted waste was directly recycled or recovered. Trade waste declined between 2006 and 2012, despite the increase in sales volumes.
