Supermarkets focus on food again
From 1997 to 2008, the turnover of the food supermarket sector grew steadily. It fell in 2009 due to the effect of the economic crisis. Then it gradually recovered before dipping again in 2014. The erosion of non-food sales has continued since 2009, while food sales have held up and even continued to grow. Sales out of stores have contained the decline in sales in supermarkets and hypermarkets.
