Enterprise categories in France: from micro to large enterprise
In 2011, 3.14 million non-farm commercial enterprises were established in France: 243 large companies alone employing 30% of employees, 5,000 mid-sized companies (ETI), 138,000 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) excluding microenterprises, and three million microenterprises. The finance-insurance sector was the most densely concentrated. Industry and information/communication were organised in large enterprises and mid-sized companies. SMEs, including microenterprises, employed the majority of workers in personal services.
