Employment and unemployment in the new regions since the onset of the crisis
In 2014, employment slightly surpassed its pre-crisis level in metropolitan France, but the situation continued to vary substantially from region to region. Between 2008 and 2014, unemployment increased everywhere. Unemployment is now systematically higher among men than it is among women, except in Corsica. The youth unemployment rate has increased more severely in the southern and western regions since the onset of the economic crisis.
